The latest article by CNWL’s Ankita Guchait’s latest article has been published by the British Psychological Society, reflecting on her journey as both a researcher and clinician.
In the article, Ankita reflects on her journey as both a researcher and clinician, exploring the challenges of publication and authorship, as well as the differences between working in the USA and the UK. She also highlights the importance of setting clear boundaries, keeping a record of contributions, and seeking out mentorship and networking opportunities.
Ankita who is an Assistant Psychologist for Learning Disability Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (LD CAMHS) in CNWL, spoke about her pathway:
“One thing I've realised is that research in the UK is not a linear path. There's no single blueprint. Independence, curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to network are key. It's about finding the people and institutions that support your interests, asking for guidance, and being persistent.”
Ankita also spoke about the support she has received from Noclor along the way:
“Organisations like the North London Clinical Research Network (NOCLOR) within the NHS are game changers. Through them, I've been part of two studies, helping recruit participants from the services I worked in. This experience taught me the 'behind the scenes' of research initiation: obtaining informed consent, managing recruitment, safeguarding data, and understanding the nuts and bolts of ethics. These are lessons you rarely learn at university but are crucial in practice.”
