
CNWL-UCL Infection and Sexual Health researchers were recognised with the Best Stall Award at UCLH’s Research Open Day for their innovative work, showcasing groundbreaking studies on STI transmission, antibiotic resistance, and vaccine development.
Ebun Taiwo, Florence Bascombe, Philip Oddie, Joy Song, Manik Kohli, Maeve Barlow, Brittney Prusty, and Dierdre Sally hosted the popular stall with information about studies and the opportunity for a full body scan. It featured studies from the service including the MSM Carriage Study, investigating implications for Neisseria gonorrhoeae transmission and the emergence of antibiotic resistance, and TrepomAb, a research study aiming to accelerate the development of vaccines for syphilis.
The award for the team was presented by Baroness Julia Neuberger, Chair, and Dr Nick McNally, Managing Director of Research, University College London Hospital (UCLH).
Mortimer Market Centre, part of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL), offers free and confidential sexual health services, this includes contraception, PrEP and assessment & treatment of sexual health symptoms and infections. The service is a national leader in research for sexual health and infections.
Returning after a pause, the Research Open Day was back and better than ever on 3rd July at UCLH, with 50 interactive stalls featured with research and clinical teams showcasing their incredible work and technological advancements. Stalls covered the latest research into cancer, imaging, dementia, mental health, diabetes, fetal medicine, critical care, careers and more!
The celebration was open to all with staff and patients able to get hands-on with the latest health science and speak to cutting edge researchers. It included hospital tours, talks for local schools and activities designed to engage and inspire.
