The new course is now available to learners and will help to explore and understand inclusion, diversity, and underrepresented voices in the context of public involvement in research.

The course has drawn from learnings from the National Institute for Health and Care Research’s (NIHR) Race Equality Public Action Group (REPAG), which was established in 2020 to give racialised communities a stronger voice in shaping priorities for research.

Those undertaking the course will be guided on how they can identify the systemic, organisational and societal barriers to achieving this, and explore the practical strategies and best practices for creating an inclusive research environment.

After completing this course the trainee should:

  • Understand what is meant by diversity, underrepresented voices, and public involvement in research
  • Understand why diverse perspectives and inclusive practices benefit health and social care research
  • Identify key barriers that discourage or prevent underrepresented communities from being involved or taking part in research
  • Describe strategies that can make research more diverse and inclusive
  • Evaluate how well your strategies for inclusive diverse research are working.
