Join our festive-themed Journal Club session exploring how Santa’s reindeer experiments illuminate the importance of well-defined research questions, plus discover the diverse, thought-provoking papers planned for early 2026
You're invited to the Noclor Journal Club's next meeting on Tuesday 16/12/25, 11am-12.30pm, online via Teams!
Whittington Health Library's Noclor Journal Club is open to all nurses and AHPs from Noclor-partnered Trusts. The club meets online (and in-person) on a monthly basis to discuss a recent paper in a friendly and informal way. The next session is on Tuesday 16/12/25, from 11am-12.30pm, and it will cover this paper: All I want for Christmas…is a precisely defined research question. In it, Santa runs experiments with his reindeer to see which is better for their flying performance: a bunch of carrots or a mince pie? How will different estimands effect our view of the results? Come along to learn about the serious issues raised by this light-hearted paper.
The Whittington Health Library team has also set the papers they'll cover at meetings in the first quarter of 2026, and you're welcome to join them for all of them:
- Tuesday 13/1/26, 3-4.30pm. As we may well be feeling the effects of the festive season and perhaps taking part in "Dry January", we'll be reading Temporary abstinence challenges: What do we need to know?
- Wednesday 18/2/26, 2-3.30pm. Because we'll all be sick of the dark evenings, we'll be looking at the evidence behind them via The British Sleep Society position statement on Daylight Saving Time in the UK
- Friday 13/3/26, 2-3pm. In honour of Easter being just round the corner, we'll be reading A bite of dark chocolate? Black humour in mental health services
The quality and rigour of these papers' methodology, as well as the topics they covers, will feature in the discussion - so even if they are outside of your specialty there will be something for you! You're welcome to drop-in and out of sessions too.
To book your place at any of these upcoming meetings, please email Whittington Health Library at whl@nhs.net or call 020 7288 3580 and they will send you an outlook invitation and link to join! They can also keep you up to date with plans for future sessions. Past papers covered by the club include "The role of dog therapy in clinical recovery and improving quality of life: a randomized, controlled trial" and "Zombie apocalypse simulation: elevating mental health nursing education", so there's something different every time!
