Letter of Access

A Letter of Access is issued when a Research Passport form (or NHS to NHS engagement form) has been completed and approved.  This letter provides formal evidence of permission to access the host NHS organisation facilities.

Research is often undertaken by NHS staff not directly employed by the NHS organisation. This creates issues relating to accountability, responsibility of patient care and safety. A letter of access establishes that staff have undergone the correct checks to work with patients in a different NHS organisation.
